Today, with three granddaughters here for the day, we made Silly Apple Faces. Thanks to Fork and Beans for the inspiration. I changed things slightly from her version, but the girls loved them!
Recently on Facebook, we've talked about ways to encourage children to develop healthy eating habits. These after nap snacks were made from very simple ingredients: green apples, peanut butter, strawberries, sunflower seeds and silly googly eyes purchased at Hobby Lobby.
Cut the apples into fourths and then very carefully cut out the middles to make a mouth. Don't go too deep, but don't worry about it being perfect. You're going to fill that "mouth" with peanut butter.
Gently spread a little peanut butter into the mouth. Add a slice of the strawberry for the tongue and then stick in sunflower seeds for the teeth.
Place a little dab of peanut butter on the back of the eyes and press them onto the apple slice.
To make it more fun, vary the faces. Add more or less eyes to each face. The same goes for the teeth. Make each one unique. That's what makes it so much fun!
