Dining Out Southeast: The Greasy Spoon, Gallant, AL

We took a short road trip to the nearby town of Gallant, Alabama today.  In the 1930s, there was an active iron mining community at nearby Greasy Cove.  Of course, there was a general store at Greasy Cove.  Descendants of the original owner of the general store operate the business today.

As you can see from the photos, pumpkins, mums, gourds, and hay bales abound!

Inside the store, you'll find jams, jellies, preserves, and other delicious canned goods.

Also, inside the store, The Greasy Spoon is offering up unique burgers, sandwiches, onion rings, and a daily dessert option.

Sweet Harold had the Cove Bacon Burger $6.99 (fresh beef patty, cheddar, and thick-sliced bacon).  He thoroughly enjoyed this one:  well-seasoned, perfectly fried bacon, juicy burger.

I had the Pistol Annie (fresh beef patty, cream cheese, and jalapeños.

Now at first glance, this seems like an overwhelming amount of jalapeños, but notice that SLAB of cream cheese.  The cream cheese offset the heat of the peppers.  Granted, this is not a burger I'd eat every day, but for a special treat, it was delicious.

The fries were a conundrum for us. They were thinly sliced, but cooked very soft.  Not your typical french fry, but they were tasty.

If you're traveling through the Gallant community, stop in the Greasy Spoon and give them a try!
