Butter Chicken

Butter Chicken originated in North India. Murgh makhani, anglicised as butter chicken, is a version of curry chicken in a spiced tomato and butter sauce. It is similar to chicken tikka masala, which uses a tomato paste.

While shopping in Publix this week, I took my time in the international aisle and spied this intriguing product.  After a brief in-aisle conference with Sweet Harold, we reached the unanimous decision to purchase and give it a try.

I purchased basmati rice and pre-made naan bread to serve with the Butter Chicken.  I wanted a green vegetable to complete the meal and steamed and buttered broccoli fit the bill perfectly.

Directions for the butter chicken were provided on the side of the jar.  It was SO simple.

I (large) cubed 2 lbs. of boneless skinless chicken breasts and added about a tablespoon of olive oil to a large non-stick skillet.  Heat the olive oil over medium high heat and then add chicken to the skillet.  Cook, stirring frequently, until chicken has lightly browned and is cooked through.

Then, reduce the heat to low and add in the sauce!  Stir to coat the chicken pieces and let the chicken simmer in the sauce for 5 - 7 minutes.

The result is a buttery, creamy sauce covering the chicken.  You can taste the spices, but it's not overwhelming.  Like I said above, I cooked basmati rice and it soaked up the sauce in such a delicious way.  The individual pieces of naan were lightly toasted in the toaster.

The next time you're grocery shopping, take your time to browse and see what new and interesting products you find that will be fun for your family to try.
