While on an overnight visit to Montgomery, we stayed at the Renaissance Hotel and Spa. Nearby is the historic Union Station Depot built between 1898-1899. Although not used as a railway depot nowadays, thankfully this beautiful building was saved from demolition and is now home to a variety of businesses and restaurants. We chose Lek's Railroad Thai for our Friday night meal.
We were warmly greeted and immediately escorted to our choice of an outdoor dining table. They offer an EXTENSIVE sushi menu.
I had been craving tuna tataki so I decided to begin our meal with that while we decided what to order for our entrees.
We both decided to give their offerings of our favorite Thai soups a try.
I love Tom Yum Soup which traditionally consists of shrimp, mushrooms, cilantro, scallions, lime, and lemongrass. Tonight's portion was very lightly seasoned and included tomatoes. The lime element was very faint.
For his soup, Sweet Harold always goes with the coconut version whatever that might be at any given Thai restaurant.
Their menu description reads as follows: a delightful blend of lemongrass, fresh garden spices, tomatoes, mushrooms, and fresh lime juice all in a coconut broth. He declared it delicious and every bite.
Sweet Harold selected the Cashew Chicken entree, but upgraded to the combination order which, in addition to the chicken, also included steak, and shrimp. He enjoyed this version, but stated he missed the addition of mushrooms in the variety of vegetables. Rice was served in a separate container.
I am definitely on a Nam Sod kick right now, so I was eager to try their version. The lime flavor (again) could have been more pronounced for my tastebuds, but it was delicious nontheless. The rice was also served on the side, which is perfect for low-carb dieters such as myself.
The presentation on all the dishes was gorgeous and the atmosphere in the restaurant was delightful. Service was excellent.
