One of my favorite comfort food meals involves cubed steak. It is sold by a few other names such as bucket steak. I'm always happy when I can find the pork version for variety.
Instead of frying in my trusty cast iron skillet, I decided to go the air fryer route with this batch.
This package contained four pieces which equaled a little over a pound of meat.
In a metal pie pan, I mixed about a half cup of self-rising flour with a tablespoon of Hardin's Seasoning. You can use whatever seasoning you like.
In another metal pie pan, I whisked together one egg and a teaspoon of water.
I coated the individual pieces of steak with the flour mixture, then dipped in the egg wash, and then back into the flour mixture, pressing down to make sure that each piece was completely coated with the flour.
A few minutes of rest time and then into the air fryer.
I did use the air fryer setting which is 400 degrees on my particular model. I placed the prepared pork cubed steaks into the basket and started the cook. I set the timer for 20 minutes.
At 20 minutes they were all done and ready to eat! You may need to adjust your cook time to your particular air fryer.
I'll admit, it was great not to have to worry with hot oil, splatters, and the mess that can come along with frying on the stove top!
I plated with mashed potatoes and topped with a brown gravy. If you prefer white (or milk) gravy, by all means, enjoy what you like.
