What was the best restaurant meal you enjoyed during 2010?

We had so many great meals last year.  But by far my most enjoyable was at Firefly in Panama City Beach.  Yes, it was my birthday meal, but the memory of the She-crab soup with puff pastry and sherry still makes me smile.  Pictures and review are in the August portion of the archives.

Runners up include any BBQ "joint."  I am a Pulled Pork lover from childhood.  Vinegar based sauce, please.

So think back to 2010 and let us know what restaurant meal you enjoyed the most. Don't just consider the food, think about the company, the atmosphere, the whole package!

  1. Lunch at Nola Grocery, Middendorf's and Rockefeller's with my friends. Boiled seafood at a place by our house. I can't pick a favorite! :( -BethF

  2. I can't say one way or the other, honestly. Nothing stands out and says "OOOH! OOOH! Pick me! Pick me!" I've had good food, but I enjoy places like Outback Steakhouse and Kim's Restaurant, where I can get my stir fried pork with pickled mustard greens. Or Jake's, over on Mt. Kennedy (tonight's dinner), which is one of the top three places I'd go for fried oysters. I had tongue for the first time in 2010, in the form of tongue tacos from Taqueria Sanchez which were amazing, but the rest of the meal was "meh". Mo's Pizza on Avenue H is outstanding and possibly the largest large pizza on the Gulf Coast.

Jake is my constant companion on my eating out forays, so the company is always good. :)

  3. By far my favorite meal was at McGuire's Irish Pub in Pensacola, FL. We'd never been there and went on a friends recommendation. We were NOT disapointed. The thousands of 1$ bills all over the restaurant...hung from the ceiling...the whole Irish feeling...it was worth the wait AND the ridiculous turns we had to make to get there. Brian and I had steak and baked potato. We had wonderful rye bread with it as well. **** Jennie ****

  4. Our favorite restaurant up here is Pok Pok and my favorite trip of 2010 was going with friends. We took a great friend and her husband and it was amazing. It's authentic (as authentic as you can get without being in Thailand)Thai food. We had Papaya Salad which is shredded green papaya with an assortment of ingredients, Beef Salad which was fabulous, Vietnamese Fish Sauce wings which were dreamy (I do seriously dream of them!), and drank Thai limeades. We ate outside under an light up covering had a lot of conversation and laughter. Good times!

  5. It seems kinda cheesey, but the arroz con pollo from No Way Jose's in Gatlinburg was the most memorable and satisfying meal I had last year. I ate it twice; once in March and again in September. The meal was not as good the second time around. In fact, it was disappointing. :/ I think the reason it was so good the first time can be attributed to the circumstances. Stephen and I had been walking around Gatlinburg all day and we had just gotten out of the aquarium around 9 pm. I was tired and starving. I was doing my best to suppress any whining. Stephen wanted to eat at Bubba Gump (ew. how fresh can sea food be in the Smokey Mountians?) so we treked up that way. It was packed of course so I begged him to eat somewhere else. We walked all the way back down the strip without deciding, so I said we are going to No Way Jose's. The service was terrible. The hostess was rude and the table we sat at was reminicent of those $10 three-legged end tables you get at Wal-Mart. Still, that dish was the best meal I had all year.
