Guest Blogger: Rustic Italian Herb Spaghetti Bake


The pictures and recipe (posted exactly as I received it from the contributor) were provided by this week's Guest Blogger.  This certainly looks and sounds delicious.  We're definitely moving into the comfort food season and this is one I will definitely try myself.

1 lb. Ground Chuck 
1 lb. mild Italian Sausage
1/2 Spanish onion (chopped)
1 T. garlic (chopped
1/2 T. Italian seasoning
1 dozen basil leaves
1 quart tomato and basil spaghetti sauce
Salt and pepper to taste
1 lb. whole wheat angel hair noodles
1 lb. shredded mozzarella
1/2 lb. fresh mozzarella
1 red bell pepper (sliced)
Fresh basil (for garnish)

1.  Put beef and sausage into a big 'ol skillet and brown with garlic and onions
2.  Add tomato sauce and spices and heat through
3.  Cook spaghetti per package instructions and strain.
5.  Grease 9 x 13 baking dish
6.  Layer sauce, spaghetti, and cheese
7.  Repeat
8.  Finish layer with sauce, fresh mozzarella, red pepper and 1 cup of Parmesan cheese (optional)
9.  Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes
10.  Let sit for 10 minutes
11.  Garnish with fresh basil and serve with garlic bread.
