Dining Out Southeast: Delta Blues Restaurant and Catering, Bristol, TN

While on my weekend adventure which Sweet Harold planned for us, we made an early afternoon stop in Bristol, TN. If you're not familiar with Bristol, it is a beautiful town with a twin personality. You see, there is a Bristol, TN AND a Bristol, VA. And yes, the dividing line of these two states goes straight down the center of town.

We were walking and exploring a little and came across Delta Blues Restaurant and Catering located at 824 State Street.

The decor is fun and certainly gets you in the mood for an evening of Blues Music.  There is a stage for bands to perform and I can imagine that weekend evenings are FUN here.

Upon entering, we were immediately welcomed and met with the sound of Blues Music playing.  So far so good.

We approached the counter to place our order and the lady advised us to sit down with the menu "because there is a LOT to choose from and you might miss something if you're in a hurry."  So we did exactly that.

We were both torn between the smoked chicken and the pulled pork sandwiches. No problem we were told!  Order one of each and the kitchen will go ahead and divide those for you!  So we did exactly that.

While we waited for our food to be delivered, we pondered the five different sauces to choose from and I bet you know which one picked!

Yes, the East Carolina vinegar-based sauce was my favorite.  The Spicy came in second for me and I used that one for a dipping sauce for my fries instead of ketchup.

The smoked chicken sandwich was extremely flavorful. I'm always a tad hesitant to order smoked chicken because I'm wary that it might be dried out, but this one certainly didn't have that issue!

As you can see, a very generous portion of chicken on this sandwich!  The "fries" were seasoned well, but weren't served hot.  They were room temp at best as if they had been cooked previously. I wish they had been given another minute in the fryer to warm them up some.

The pulled pork sandwich was just as flavorful and loaded with meat as well. The East Carolina sauce was a marriage made in heaven for this pork! And I did appreciate the kitchen dividing the sandwiches for us.  It was really easy to have the best of both this way!

Sweet Harold opted for the house made potato chips instead of fries.  He was pleased with their crunchiness.

I'd like to go back and spend more time in Bristol.  The area is loaded with history, antique stores, shops, and fun things to see and do.  Next time we're in town, I'll definitely give Delta Blues another try.

  1. We've been at Delta Blues 20 times. We are now addicted to the ribs. As well as the coleslaw and baked beans. Bristol needed a great Q joint, and thank goodness, now we have one!
