Dining Out Southeast: Harvest Moon Café, Rome, Georgia

Today we took a "loafing" day, drove over to Rome, Georgia for some early Christmas shopping, and a day to simply enjoy each other's company.  That's what happens when you marry your best friend.  But back to our lunch!

Harvest Moon Cafe is a lovely restaurant located in downtown Rome, Georgia.  This Southern café is housed in a historic, brick-walled building which is warm and welcoming the second you walk through the doors.  There's also a (dog-friendly) roof bar that showcases local musicians.  Here's a few pictures I snagged from their website.

The menu offers the classic Meat and Three (or Tw0) with items such as salmon patties, meatloaf, fried catfish, or smothered chicken. There's also sandwiches, burgers, and salads to choose from along with a nice selection of vegetables.

We were promptly seated and our server today, Cam, was friendly and welcoming.  Our beverage choice, sweet tea, was the perfect level of sweetness.  Cam had several menu suggestions and we started off our lunch with Hot Wicked Pimina Dip served with fresh house made tortilla chips.  Y'all know how I love pimento cheese and Harvest Moon Cafe's dip version is cheesy, full of flavor, and with a little bit of heat!  The chips were extremely light and completely grease free!  I loved this appetizer.  

I love Cuban sandwiches and was eager to try their version. I chose steak fries for my side.  As you can see from the top of the bread the sandwich had been pressed and the result was an extremely crunchy (and delicious) exterior!  

Their Cuban consists of freshly roasted turkey, honey glazed ham, swiss cheese, pickles, yellow mustard on toasted Cuban bread.  

The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned.  Yes, it is possible to mess up an order of fries.  These were great.

This sandwich was a generous serving size!  In fact, I brought half of it home for another meal. If you're a fan of Cuban sandwiches, you'll love their version.  

Sweet Harold decided to try the Reuben made of corned beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing on molasses rye bread.  He enjoyed house made sweet potato chips alongside.

I'll admit I eagerly accepted the bite that he offered me.  The bread was nicely browned and very tasty.  The corned beef was tender and the cheese was melted into a nice gooey consistency.  But, oops, the sauerkraut was missing.  But even with the MIA kraut, the sandwich was amazing.  

I neglected to take a picture, but the sweet potato chips were served with a small bowl of warm creamy bacon gorgonzola dip.  That met with his approval!

Cam (and another server whose name I didn't catch) took very good care of us and the tea glasses remained full.  

Before, when reviewing restaurants, I've noted that some eateries are just "fun."  All the diners are having a great meal and the atmosphere carries all through the dining area.  Today's meal was just that.  Fun.
