PowerXL AirFryer Pro: Chicken Thighs and French Fries

These super crunchy Chicken Thighs and French Fries were cooked in my Power Air Fryer Pro.  I was given a complimentary appliance for testing purposes by https://www.powerxlproducts.combut all opinions are my own.

The Power Air Fryer Pro can be purchased at major retail stores nationwide such as Wal-Mart, Bed Bath and Beyond, Costco, Kohl's, Target, Sam's Club, Amazon or from their website: https://www.powerxlproducts.com/kitchen/power-xl-air-fryers/6-qt-powerxl-airfryer-pro.html

The fun experimentation continues with the Power Air Fryer Pro.  This past Sunday we decided to have fried chicken for Sunday Supper! For this recipe, I cooked six bone-in skin on chicken thighs.  We'll get to the french fries in just a bit.

I wanted to start with a short marinade for the chicken.

For the Marinade:
2 cups buttermilk
1 t. dried poultry seasoning
1 t. salt
1 t. freshly ground black pepper

In a large bowl, whisk the buttermilk and seasoning until well combined.  Place chicken into marinade and let rest for 45 - 60 minutes, turning halfway through the time.

Now it's time to mix up the flour to dredge the chicken.  In another large bowl, combine the following:

2 cups self-rising flour
1 t. paprika
1/2 t. dried poultry seasoning
1/2 t. dried thyme
1 t. salt
1 t. freshly ground black pepper.

Lightly spray two of the racks with non-stick spray.  Set aside.

Take one piece of chicken at a time and hold it over the marinade bowl, so that most of the buttermilk mixture drains away.  Place the chicken into the flour mixture and turn over and over until the chicken is completely coated.  Place skin up on air flow rack.  Continue until all the chicken is coated.

Lightly spray the chicken with Olive Oil non-stick spray and place the racks into the Air Fryer.  Turn the Air Fryer on and press the "chicken leg" icon.  The chicken is automatically set to air fry at a specific temperature for a set time of 40 minutes.  Here's the chicken as it begins to cook.

Halfway through the cooking time, carefully remove the racks from the fryer and, using tongs, turn the chicken over and place back onto the racks.  Place chicken back into fryer and continue to cook for the remaining time of 20 minutes.  Remove from air fryer and, using an instant read thermometer, check temp in the thickest part of the thigh.  If the internal temperature is not 165 degrees F., place back into the Air Fryer for another 2 - 3 minutes and check again.

Look at how crispy, crunchy, and juicy this piece of chicken is with no oil!

If you want to enjoy some french fries along with your chicken, here's what I did.

3 medium potatoes, washed and sliced
Non-stick spray
2 T. olive oil
Salt
Pepper

Lightly spray the third air flow rack with non-stick spray. Place sliced potatoes in a large bowl and pour the olive oil over the slices.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper and toss until all the potatoes are coated.

Spread the potatoes out in a single layer on the rack.  Place in Air Fryer and press the "french fry" icon.  The potatoes will be set for an automatic temperature and cooking time.  Again, half way through the cooking time, carefully remove the rack, turn the french fries over and place back into the fryer until the cooking time is complete.

Our thoughts on this meal?  The chicken was extremely crunchy and flavorful.  Next time, I'll coat the chicken in panko bread crumbs or crushed cracker crumbs.  I appreciate being able to have this type of crunch without deep fat frying!

The fries were crispy as well.  I prefer fries with no peel, so next time I'll peel the potatoes and leave them in more of a "steak fry" cut.

There are so many reasons to love this product.  The versatility in preparing traditionally fried foods with no oil, but still enjoy that crunch with each bite is a huge selling point for me, especially health-wise!
