Dining Out Southeast: Giovanni's Pizza Italian Restaurant, Albertville, AL

We had a mid-afternoon errand to run in nearby Albertville today.  We've been having salads for lunch for two weeks.  As we drove, we discussed whether to go out for our semi-regular Wednesday lunch.  Since I've retired, our almost always Wednesday lunches out have changed to semi-regular.  As we talked about restaurants in the area that we haven't tried, Giovanni's Pizza Italian Restaurant came to mind.

Through the years, we have passed by this family owned and operated business.  That is truly our loss.

Upon entering, we were warmly greeted and invited to sit wherever we wanted.  Barb was our server and when she realized it was our first visit, she gave several suggestions from the menu and allowed us plenty of time to make our selections.

We began with fried eggplant sticks with marinara sauce.  They were served piping hot and super crunchy.  This is how you want fried eggplant to be served.

The menu is extensive with calzones, salads, and stromboli.  The pasta selections include linguini, ziti, rigatoni, baked ziti, fettucine alfredo, pasta primavera, spaghetti with meat sauce or marinara, and tortellini.

If none of these suggestions strike your fancy, how about one of these homemade dinners? Chicken marsala, chicken piccata, lasagna, chicken or shrimp scampi, eggplant/veal/chicken parmesan, manicotti, ravioli, and there's even a Tour of Italy that includes Chicken Parmesan, Lasagna, and Manicotti!

Not to be outdone by all these Italian specialties, how about some Greek dishes to chooses from?  Gyro platter, Shrimp Mykonos, Chicken Souvlaki platter, sauteed Chicken Livers Greek Style.

We filed all these suggestions away for a dinner date meal!  For today, we concentrated on the Hot Sandwiches portion of the menu.  Each one sounded delicious! Gyro on a Pita, ham and cheese, tuna melt, pepper steak, meatball, submarine, even hamburgers and cheeseburgers!

Here's what we finally decided upon.

For me:  Italian Cheese Steak:  slices of steak and sauteed onions on a hogie bun, topped with melted provolone cheese; served with fries.  This sandwich was LARGE.  I brought home half for another lunch.  The steak was flavorful and the cheese was plentiful.

Sweet Harold ordered the Mushroom Steak sandwich which was loaded with steak and mushrooms.  He was well pleased with his choice.

I almost forgot! If you're a pizza lover, guess what?  There are a number of pizza selections made with their freshly made every day pizza dough.  The best part?  Buy one pizza and get one of equal or lesser value FREE!

Barb was attentive and a great server.  While we enjoyed our meal, we noticed employees were busy cleaning and sanitizing.  That's always a plus in my book.

We will be back soon to try other items.  You can find Giovanni's on Facebook!
