Dining Out Southeast: The Poppy and Parliament, Huntsville, AL

We celebrated our 27th Anniversary recently at The Poppy and Parliament in Huntsville, Alabama.

From their website:  The Poppy & Parliament is an upscale English Pub located on the historic downtown square in the vibrant, up-and-coming city of Huntsville, Alabama. The Poppy was established in May of 2019 and the addition of the Parliament was opened in November of 2020. The facility boasts ample indoor seating as well as a beautiful patio space. Our menu focuses primarily on upscale English and Irish fare, selections of perfectly grilled steaks, fruits of the ocean, house-cured charcuterie, and beautiful warm salads. We continually rotate blackboard specials nightly which consist of hand-carved steaks, fresh seafood, and delicate desserts. We are eager to include local and seasonal ingredients on our menu and constantly looking to better ourselves to please the public in every way possible. We specialize in imported draft beers, cask ales, craft cocktails, and an adventurous wine list. Our pub, with its authentic décor and warm inviting ambiance will make you feel like you are across the pond.

We started our evening with some delicious pub drinks!  I enjoyed a Pimm's Cup and Sweet Harold selected a Guinness Stout.

The bar area is gorgeous!

Even though we knew we were going to have a big meal, we couldn't resist ordering the Homemade Charcuterie and Tapas Board.  Yes, we brought some home!  Our server, Kelly, named everything on the board and I attempted to remember all the items.  But, I failed.  I'll do my best to remember what was what!

Smoked Cod with Dill.  If you like smoked fish and dill, you'll love this one.  I enjoyed the flavors.

Tempura battered fried goat cheese.  These were crisp, yummy, and the goat cheese was nice and tangy.

Green tomato, whole grain mustard, and raisin chutney.  I'm not a fan of raisins, so I ate around them, but the flavor was tart and delicious!

The beet and berry chutney was also flavorful.  The earthiness of the beets paired wonderfully with the sweetness of the berries.  Kudos on the sliced salami as well!

Roasted red pepper spread was creamy and spreadable as was the second option (sorry, I can't remember the name).  This was my favorite of the two cheese spreads.  I loved the cured meat.

There was a variety of cured meat with several different types of toasted breads along with smoked gouda wedges.

This was my absolute favorite of the board:  Cabbage, tomatoes, chorizo, bacon, pesto, AND a runny egg.  10/10

I know y'all are already full.  I was.  But now on to the main event!

Sweet Harold could not resist the Fish and Chips with a side of Mushy Peas!  The fish and chips were delivered wrapped in "newspaper" and with directions from our server, SH was happy to follow instructions and got ready to dig in.....served with homemade tartar sauce as well.  Apparently, mushy peas are an acquired taste!  While SH loves regular English peas, the mushy variety wasn't his favorite.

I had the Pork Bone-In Steak which is described on the menu as follows:  grilled pastrami and orange flavored 14 oz. pork cowboy steak resting on pan-fried asparagus served with a fire roasted apple and organic cider sauce.

If that wasn't enough deliciousness, there was a spinach and shallot white wine cream sauce served alongside.

Our anniversary meal was delightful from beginning to end.  Our server was knowledgeable of the menu offerings and was very welcoming.

After our meal, we were invited to go upstairs to the butcher shop and gift area.

Enjoy!

If you're near Huntsville, make a stop and be transported to a pub "across the pond" for a bit!
