Dining Out United Kingdom: General Merchants, Belfast

Today, our host and hostess suggested we dine at one of their favorite spots General Merchants.  We opted to dine on the covered heated patio area.  Water and glasses were promptly brought to the table as we carefully searched the menu to choose which of the tempting options we would enjoy.

I was delighted to see San Pellegrino Orange on the beverage menu.  I love San Pellegrino and the orange flavor was delicious.

Sweet Harold has decided that Americano Coffee is his new favorite.

Favorite Son (FS) has his usual Oat Mocha.

Emily (Favorite Daughter in Law) had a Oat Milk Latte with Cinnamon Syrup.

One of the specials listed today was the Yosemite Sam sandwich.  Now you KNOW that caught my eye!  Check out this menu description:  Toasted sourdough topped with Southern spiced pulled pork, jalapeno peppers, melted cheddar, fried eggs, spring onions, and Cajun sauce.  How could I NOT order pulled pork in Belfast??

This sandwich was so much more than I expected!  The pulled pork was honestly better than most of the pulled pork I've eaten at KCBS BBQ competitions.  The sauce was sweet, but carried some heat.  Bonus points for the thick consistency.

The sandwich was too pretty to only have one photo, so I twirled that plate around to get another view.

See?  It's beautiful from this angle as well.  Now for the ultimate test.....pierce one of those fried eggs with the fork.

The nicely toasted sourdough bread slice, the cheese, combined with the pulled pork with that spicy sauce, mixed with the runny yolk?  Oh wowza....this was a sandwich I would love to try to duplicate at home at some point.  I could only eat half of this sandwich.  I brough the remainder home to enjoy later.

Sweet Harold chose the turkey sandwich.  Again, this wasn't just a cold deli turkey sandwich.  Read THIS decription!

Slow cooked turkey breast, maple mustard gammon, house made sausage meat stuffing, crispy hash browns, melted cheddar cheese and cranberry mayo.  Then it's pressed in a crisp focaccia bap and served with house seasoned fries.

He, too, said that next year after Thanksgiving, he'd be making a similar version at home.

Favorite Son (FS) ordered the Huevos Rotos which is described as follows on the menu:  triple cooked rooster spuds (a russet type potato originally grown in Carlow, Ireland), chives, paprika salt, grilled chorizo, Ballymaloe relish (a fruity type of ketchup sorta/kinda), broken fried eggs, avo, seeds, cress, and sumac.

I tried a bite of the chorizo and it was flavorful and perfectly cooked with just a light bit of seasoning.

Favorite Daughter in Law (FDIL) ordered the Veggie General which is a double halloumi, double hash brown, double scrambled egg, smashed avocado, Ballymaloe relish, and mayo in a toasted brioche roll.

All of the dishes were beautifully plated and made with the freshest ingredients.  You can taste the huge difference that is the result in foods made with quality ingredients.

Our server was personable and took great care of our table.  Another great meal!
