Dining Out Southeast: Game Day, Gadsden, AL

A few months ago, a new sports bar opened in my hometown.  As is customary for us, we let the dust settle so to speak and gave them the opportunity to hit their groove in the kitchen and dining room before giving them a try.

If you're in the mood to watch sports and have elevated sports bar food, Game Day will fit the bill.

Here's a picture of their menu.  As you can see the options are extensive.  Yes, there's your typical wings and burgers, but the options all sound tasty.

We were happy to see Pork Rinds on the appetizer menu along with Sticky Shrimp.  Trust me, those will be options we'll be trying soon.  But as a baseline, we had to begin with those Fried Pickles.  You can tell a lot about how a restaurant prepares those slices of pickles.  We've had orders where we've used several paper towels patting the oil off of the pickles before we could enjoy them.

These were well seasoned with a light batter.  You can see the spices in the batter!  Not one drop, not even a half a drop of oil remained on these!  The chipotle ranch dipping sauce had just the right amount of heat.  We were off to a great start on our meal!

I was so tempted to try a burger or a patty melt.  But then I flipped the menu over to find a Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich.  Decision made!

Game Day's version is named The Titan - a Nashville hot Crispy Chicken Breast with pickles, lettuce, and mayo.  You can order it classic or buffalo style.  It's served with french fries, but I asked if I could have onion rings instead.  I could!

The bun was fresh, soft, and lightly toasted as it should be.  The chicken was a generous sized piece and nice and crunchy.  The sauce had the perfect amount of sauce so as to not ruin the crunchiness.

It was a large sandwich, so I cut in half to be able to enjoy it easier.  Look at how yummy this chicken is!

Now to the onion rings.  That's another thing I'll order regularly just to get a baseline on the restaurant's breading, thickness of the slice, and whether when I take a bite if the entire slice of onion is going to slip out of the breading.  Y'all know what I'm talking about, right?

These onion rings were sliced to the perfect thickness.  Sometimes onion rings are fried about a minute too long.  The breading is either too thick or too thin.  I may have found my perfect in town onion ring.

Now y'all know when Sweet Harold saw Fish and Chips on the menu, he was going to order those.  Added bonus, the fish was grouper!

You can order 3 or 5 pieces.  He went with the 3 piece and actually brought one piece home.  So bring your appetite if you order the fish and chips.

They're served with fries, of course, but also coleslaw.  Y'all also know that SH is particular about his slaw.  Their version received two thumbs up.  The house made tartar sauce rocked.  It's those types of things that make a difference in a meal.  They could easily have used a premade product.  Kudos for adding that special touch.

Service was prompt and attentive.  The decor is modern, clean, and fun.  There are televisions galore.  Happy Hour Monday - Friday 2 - 5.

And, as an added bonus for me, Joe Willie adorns the back wall!
