Sweet Harold brought home some apples from a friend yesterday. I had a Pillsbury pie crust in the freezer. I thawed it out for about 30 minutes, chopped up the apples, tossed them with some sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg, piled it in the crust, baked it and voila! Semi-instant dessert!
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
I used 5 small/medium apples. Peel, core and slice into 1/2 inch slices.
In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1 T. self-rising flour, 1/4 t. nutmeg and 1 t. cinnamon.
Add the sliced apples and gently stir to make sure the apple slices are well coated with the sugar mixture.
Place the pie crust on a baking stone or a lightly greased baking sheet and pile on the apple slices.
Gently pull the pie crust around the apple slices and overlap as you go.
In a small bowl, light beat one egg with 1/2 t. water with a fork and then brush the egg mixture onto the crust.
Sprinkle the crust with sugar and place in oven for 20-22 minutes until crust has browned and apples are soft.
You can serve hot or at room temperature. Oooooooh how about topped with some ice cream?
I don't like apple pie, but damn, this looks GOOD!!!
