Dining Out Southeast: The Rail Public House (Brunch), Gadsden, AL

Tomorrow is Sweet Harold's birthday and he elected to enjoy brunch this morning at The Rail Public House in downtown Gadsden.

We have enjoyed our lunches there recently and were excited to try them for brunch. As in our prior visits, employees were masked and the tables/booths were socially distanced.  Service was prompt, efficient, and we were checked on several times by the owner.

We started with a pair of their famous $3 Bloodies.  Sometimes brunch drinks are a pale version of regular hour beverages.  Not this delicious spicy Bloody Mary! Just the right amount of "kick" and garnished with a slice of lime, large pimento filled olives, and a spicy pickled okra pod.  If Bloody Marys aren't your thing, Mimosas were out in full force this morning as well.

We started with an order of sausage balls with honey mustard dipping sauce.  These were served piping hot and were nicely seasoned.  The crunchy bits of browned cheese around the edges was a definite plus!

We were all set with our orders until our wonderful server, Charlese, announced the morning's specials!  Nutella French Toast, Shrimp and Grits....and then she announces Steak and Eggs!

Why yes, I do believe that is what I will order! We had our choice of a Filet or a Ribeye, cooked to order, with our choice of eggs, and either sidewinder fries or grits.  I ordered the Filet, cooked medium, with scrambled eggs with cheese, and cheesy grits.

Let's begin with the eggs! A generous portion of soft scrambled eggs with shredded cheese was creamy and delicious. The grits, which also included cheese, were some of the best restaurant grits I've ever tasted!  Perfectly cooked and served piping hot as well.

Now to the steak: a very nice char on the exterior and the inside was cooked exactly as I ordered.  No steak sauce was needed!

Sweet Harold selected the same scrambled eggs and grits but chose the ribeye cooked medium rare for his birthday brunch. The portion was so generous, he has enough for his breakfast tomorrow morning. I snuck a bite of the ribeye and it was flavorful as only a ribeye can be.

We are so excited to have The Rail Public House as a dining choice in the downtown area.  Treat yourself and your family or friends and pay them a visit!

  1. Happy birthday to your sweet husband. I love bloody Mary's. I've never had good grits eating out. Most places do not know how to season them and make them taste good. Glad you found a great place to eat.
