Dining Out Southeast: Rusty's Riverfront Grill, Vicksburg, MS

Last weekend, we visited Vicksburg, Mississippi and had dinner Friday night at Rusty's Riverfront Grill.  This is a neat spot near the Mississippi River at the end of the downtown historic district.  Rusty's offers casual dining with seafood, steaks, chicken, and pasta dishes.

We arrived right at opening for the dinner service and there was already a line waiting outside the door.  Good sign!  We were warmly greeted and promptly seated.  Our server was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu.

We started our meal with broiled oysters with onions, parsley, and a lemon butter sauce.  This dish was served bubbling hot with lots of saltines.  We counted 11 smallish sized oysters.  Their size was fine with me because I prefer the smaller ones.  The sauce was flavorful and the addition of the shredded Parmesan added another layer of flavor.

We were tempted by the yeasty rolls and butter, but attempted to refrain from enjoying too much because we knew we had a great deal of food on the way!

We both had side salads.  These were yummy, especially with the addition of a slice of boiled egg, pickled okra and a pickled green bean along with tomato and cucumber slice.

I ordered one of the menu noted "house specialties," Blackened Redfish with Crawfish Cream Sauce.  I was served a generous serving of fish which was well seasoned, but not overpowered by the blackening spices.  The crawfish cream sauce was delicious!  I chose a baked potato as my other side. It was cooked through, served hot with butter and sour cream.

Sweet Harold hadn't eaten all day and he was ready for his dinner!  He chose the Captain's Platter and what a platter it was!  Shrimp, bay scallops, oysters, crab cake, and grouper!

We had fun sharing our meals with each other.  He enjoyed some of my blackened redfish and I loved my portions of shrimp, crab cake, and oysters.  Oh yeah, I had a few scallops and a bite or two of grouper as well!

We were too full for dessert, but when we saw their offerings in the display case, we wished we had taken some back to the hotel room for later!
