Dining Out Southeast: Royal Thai Restaurant, Enterprise, AL

After leaving Wetumpka, we continued our trip southward.  We decided to spend the night in Enterprise, and after getting settled in our room, it was time to eat (again!).  Sweet Harold was our designated restaurant chooser and he selected Royal Thai.  Don't let the exterior fool you, the interior was warm, welcoming, and scrupulously clean.

The hostess greeted us and invited us to sit anywhere we wanted in the dining room which filled up quickly after we arrived.

The menu is extensive with a variety of appetizers, soups, salads, along with noodles and fried rice dishes.  There are also curry selections along with all your favorite Thai foods.

We started with the Royal Sampler to share.  The appetizers included Spring Rolls (deep fried mixed vegetables, glass noodles, wrapped in spring roll pastry); Cozy Shrimp (deep fried delicate whole shrimp and zucchini, wrapped in spring roll wrapper); Cream Cheese Wontons (cream cheese and crab meat, wrapped in wonton and fried); Golden Puff (stuffed with ground chicken, diced onions, potatoes and curry powder in spring roll wrapper); and Vegetables Tempura (mushrooms, broccoli, baby corn, sweet potato) served with Pineapple Sauce and Sweet Chili Sauce.

Everything was very lightly seasoned and deep fried which probably wasn't my best choice from the appetizer selection, but we're on vacation!  My favorite from this assortment was the Cozy Shrimp; Sweet Harold's was the spring rolls.  The dipping sauces were delicious and had many layers of flavor.

Sweet Harold went with his all time favorite Thai dish:  Cashew Nut Chicken with fried rice on the side.  He reports that the chicken was tender, there was an ample number of cashews, and along with the water chestnuts, onions, and bell peppers, this was a well balanced dish.  He requested "two peppers" heat instead of the menu listed "one pepper."  That was enough heat for him.

Following his lead, I selected MY favorite Thai Soup:  Tom Yum.  I normally get shrimp, but tonight I selected chicken as the protein.

Royal Thai's version is made in the traditional Thai style of hot and sour lemongrass soup with mushrooms, tomatoes, and scallions with lime juice.  Oh my goodness.  This LARGE serving was filled with so much chicken and mushrooms.  The broth had a wonderful aroma from the lemongrass and lime juice.  There was just enough heat ("one pepper") and I loved every last drop!

If you find yourself traveling through Enterprise, Alabama, stop in Royal Thai and treat yourself!
