Dining Out Republic of Ireland: Kitty O'Se's Seafood Restaurant, Killarney, Ireland

We knew that at some point in the Republic of Ireland that we would have a "fancy" meal or, as Grandson #2 (age 9) explains it, "the kind of restaurant where you are called sir and should wear a monocle."  So we all went in and were seated using our very best manners.

We were early diners, so we received the full attention of the entire staff.

We were offered a choice (or both!) of white or brown soda bread.  Sweet Harold wanted to compare the two and, after tasting both, couldn't make up his mind which would he preferred.  They were both delicious.

The table shared an order of Crab Claws in Garlic Cream.  These were seriously the largest crab claws I've ever seen in my life.  You could taste how fresh they were and the garlic cream sauce was amazing.

I'll remember this goodness for a very long time.

Grandson #1 had the Seafood Tagliatelle with cod, salmon, prawns, and smoked haddock in a white wine cream sauce with parmesan cheese.  This would have been my choice if we hadn't made our joint decision .... which you'll find out about shortly.

Again, the presentation is beautiful.

Grandson #2 had his second favorite meal after burgers and chips:  tempura prawns and garlic bread.

Emily had the pan fried sea bass served with sweet corn and tomato salsa and roasted cherry tomatoes.

Nathan had Coquilles St. Jacques which is scallops, Mornay sauce, parmesan cheese topped with piped potatoes.

For years I had wanted to order a Seafood Tower.  You know, the two plates with cold seafood on one level and hot seafood on the other level.  I convinced Sweet Harold that this was the place and this was definitely the time.  Trust me, it didn't take much convincing!

Presenting Kitty's Seafood Hot and Chilled Tower!

Doesn't that look amazing!  So many varieties of seafood prepared in quite a number of different ways.

Here's the chilled selection:

The oysters were sweeter in flavor than our Gulf Coast variety, the smoked salmon is always going to be a personal favorite for me, and I have learned that I am going to be preparing Marie Rose sauce regularly when I return home.

And here is the hot selection:

Everything on this level was out of this world.  Calamari, while not my favorite seafood, was nicely fried.  These crab claws were the same as the appetizer and I could have eaten the sauce with a spoon.  Mussels were tender and the grilled garlic prawns were perfectly cooked.  I gave SH the majority of the fish goujons because you know (fish and chip addiction).  😀

A few close ups!

Did we enjoy our meal?

The kiddos went off in search of ice cream for dessert and we shared this decadent dessert.

Our entire experience was exceptional.  Service was impeccable, the food delicious, and the atmosphere was great.

We all minded our manners as well!
