For our last meal in Ireland, Nathan and Emily recommended The Chubby Cherub. They told us it was an Italian restaurant, but it was not what we were expecting. No red checked tablecloths with chianti bottles with candles here. No, this is an upscale restaurant near the City Center. What struck me immediately was the brightness of the interior. Crystal chandeliers everywhere, numerous gold gilded mirrors, a beautiful bar area, and marble topped tables. There were cherub murals covering the entire ceiling as well.
The grandsons requested "dough balls" to begin their meal. No, not the dough balls you used in the country to go fishing on a creekbank! These were teaspoon sized balls of dough baked and covered with cheese and served with garlic butter.
The adults shared a platter of oven baked bread with a reduced balsamic glaze, pesto, and a tomato tapenade.
Sweet Harold ordered the Bolognese Lasagne. It was served with a beetroot, carrot, and celeriac slaw. When he finished his serving, it was still as piping hot as when he started! Lots and lots of cheese on this serving. So much so he had to peel some off to get to the actual lasagne.
Nathan and Emily both ordered the Herb Gnocchi with peas, wild mushrooms, rosemary, focaccia, and pecorino.
And I ordered a bowl of minestrone. It, too, was served very hot. A very tomato based version with tons of vegetables and pasta. It was very comforting on this chilly night.
