Last weekend, we had an opportunity to travel to Springfield, Tennessee to participate in judging a BBQ competition held there. Late Saturday afternoon, we ventured downtown to explore. I shared those photos on my Facebook page.
We decided to have an early dinner at Jose's Mexican Restaurant located right on the square in the center of the town. Take a few minutes and read the history of the building that is posted on a plaque outside.
The decor was warm and inviting and we only had to wait about 5 minutes for a table.
I decided to try an Ocean Breeze with my dinner. I know, I was dining in a landlocked state, but it sounded so delicious. It certainly was delicious and very refreshing on that hot afternoon.
A yummy combination of tequila, triple sec, orange, pineapple juice, lime, blue curacao, and a splash of Sprite!
Chips and salsa arrived at the table almost before we were seated.
I was still a little full from the BBQ judging, so I ordered Chicken Nachos from the appetizer menu. The price on the menu showed $8.99. I'm delivered this LARGE platter of grilled chicken over tortilla chips with very little cheese. In fact, all the cheese was UNDERNEATH the chips. There was obviously a lot of chicken on this plate, but it was grilled almost to desert dryness....it was moisture free chicken.
Sweet Harold order a combination plate with a chicken enchilada with green sauce, a tamale, refried beans, and rice. The tamale was excellent, in his opinion, the enchilada rated a 3/10, and the beans and rice were a little above average.
So a few highs and a few lows with this meal. It was crowded with a mixed aged group: families with children, girls night out friends, older couples.
We tried several places on our fishing trips and found that our home town place was still the best.
