This year instead of our regular ribs, burgers, chicken 4th of July meal, we decided to try a shrimp and crab boil. Of course, today's weather was an afternoon of rain showers so the outdoor cooking was moved indoors.
This is when the 9 1/2 quart Le Creuset Dutch oven comes in VERY handy!
Here are the ingredients!
Your ingredients may vary, of course but I had a mixture of red and white new potatoes, onions, garlic, lemons, corn, andouille sausage, smoked Cajun sausage, Zatarain's Crab Boil, shrimp, and pre-cooked crab legs.
Let's get started!
I added about 3 quarts of water to the pot and added onions, 4 - 6 cloves of garlic, the seasoning bag, and 2 lemons which I quartered. Over high heat, bring the water to a boil.
Once the water reaches a boil, reduce the heat to medium high and add the potatoes and let them cook 5 minutes.
Now slice the sausages and add them to the mix...Let gently boil for 10 minutes.
Now it's time to add the corn.....gently boil for 7 minutes.
Ahhhhh. Finally time to add those 2 pounds of Gulf shrimp!
The shrimp will literally cook within 2 minutes. Add the crab legs, cover with the lid of your pot and let them heat through.
All that's left to do now is ladle out into a large bowl and dig in! I served with hot sauce, slices of lemon, clarified butter and my Best Dipping Sauce Ever!
